Administrator (Basic Care/Assisted Living)


The basic care or assisted living administrator is responsible for overseeing daily operations and management of the entire facility to ensure it is in compliance with all state regulations. They are also responsible for supervising management staff, employee relations, census development, resident/tenant overall satisfaction and financial oversight.

Education & Experience
Basic Care/Assisted Living Administrators should have a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health or some other health related field. Some experience in healthcare is encouraged. Must have 12 hours of continuing education annually.

Salary Average
Assisted Living Facility:
Base Salary: $59,984,
with benefits: $71,191

Basic Care Facility:
Base Salary: $66,453,
with benefits: $75,607

Assisted Living/Basic Care Combo Facility:
Base Salary: $81,305,
with benefits: $90,048

Administrator (Nursing Home)

The Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) in a skilled nursing center is responsible for overseeing daily operations and management of the entire facility to ensure it is in compliance with all state and federal surveys requirements. They are also responsible for census development, resident/patient care, positive employee relations, and financial oversight.Education & ExperienceAdministrators must obtain at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or has an associate degree from an accredited college or university and has practiced as a licensed nursing home administrator in any jurisdiction for at least five of the last six years. After submitting an application for intent to apply with the North Dakota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators and completing at least 480 hours of an Administrator-in-Training (AIT), an AIT must then pass the National exam, state Exams and criminal history record check.

81 beds and over:
Base Salary: $147,918,
with benefits: $172,021

Hospital Attached:
Base Salary: $206,638,
with benefits: $228,372

Certifications
Licensed Nursing Home Administrators must obtain at least 20 hours of continuing education each calendar year.

Administrator-in-training – AIT (Nursing Home)

The Administrator In Training (AIT) Program will provide an opportunity for potential nursing facility administrators to:

  • Optimally function as an administrator in providing service to respective residents, family & staff.
  • Gain vital practical experience in a nursing facility thus better preparing them for the national exam.

The Program length is a minimum of 480 hours. The Program content will be flexible to allow opportunity for individuals to create/design their own learning experiences in accordance with a job analysis and the testing domains of Resident Care Management, Personnel Management, Financial Management, Environmental Management, Governance and Management, and Other disciplines such as Dietary Management, Activities Management or Marketing.

Written validation of AIT experiences will be required.
